Tricorder by MESI: First medical jam in Slovenia

Have you ever wondered just how awesome it would be having your own Star trek Tricorder? No need to wonder any more, it will soon be a reality. Participate on the first medical jam in Slovenia and become part of our team.

Star-Trek-tricorder-scanner1_largeThe famed XPRIZE foundation has announced $10M Tricorder competition to stimulate innovation and integration of precision diagnostic technologies, intended to make reliable health diagnoses available directly to consumers anytime, anywhere.

The challenge of competition is to develop medical device capable of diagnosing a set of 15 most common diseases such as anemia, diabetes, stroke, pneumonia, ear infection and continuously monitoring 5 vital signs namely blood pressure, respiratory rate, body temperature, ECG and oxygen saturation. Ultimately, this tool will collect large volumes of data from ongoing measurement of health states through a combination of wireless sensors, imaging technologies, and portable, non-invasive laboratory replacements.

We follow Simplifying diagnostics motto with purpose to support physicians with medical devices that make diagnostic procedures faster and simpler. Thus, we have gathered a team of great experts, which I am proud to present. Top user experience will be provided by Gigodesign, one of the best Slovenian designers, user interface and cloud based paradigm will be in domain of skillful computer experts from D•Labs and precision of diagnostic technologies will be ensured by us in a cooperation with The Digital Signal, Image and Video Processing Laboratory, Laboratory of Metrology and Quality from Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Department of Communication Systems, Department of Intelligent Systems from Jožef Stefan Institute.

We believe that great ideas come from thinking out of the box and without limits. Consequently, we are inviting young physicians to join our first medical jam to explore universe of developing a medical device. It will be fun, intellectual and creative at the same time. If you want to be part of the future, explore this opportunity and join our workshop on Saturday.

Ana Mlinar

Product manager at MESI

Ana studied mathematical sciences with the intention of becoming a teacher, but a different path has led her to become a key part of MESI´s R&D department. During weekends, she still practices teaching by working with high school students, but during the week she is a dedicated project manager working on the development of solutions for the Health Station and Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE.

Understanding current diagnostics approaches, researching fresh ideas and discussing them with the whole R&D department are her main contribution towards project goals. Communicating with different scientists and combining their knowledge to develop reasonable solutions might be challenging sometimes, but she manages to overcome these obstacles with an open approach and a positive attitude.
