The causes of leg ulcers are numerous, ranging from family history to diabetes, smoking, hypertension and infections to heart disease or kidney disease. Two very common types are venous and arterial (ischemic) ulcers. Although they both occur due to irregular blood flow and circulation, they require different kinds of treatment.
A very simple detection method for arterial ulcers is the measurement of the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI or ABPI). With the MESI mTABLET ABI, the measurement requires 1 minute only and is much more accessible than the traditional Doppler examination. The Doppler exam can thus be used at a later stage of ulcer diagnosis.
Nele Callaerts, a woundcare nurse at the Military Hospital Queen Astrid in Brussels, Belgium, states:
“We use the ABPI from MESI. It’s an assessment for leg ulcers and a big time saver, instead of the old measurement procedure for ABPI.”
FAST: Increased efficiency, no need for rest time, and regular cuff inflation and deflation in 1 minute
RISK-FREE: Eliminate human error and blood pressure drift through simultaneous measurement with 3CUFF™ technology
ACCURATE: PADsense™ algorithm to identify severe disease and notify you with a clear “PAD” message
DETAILED: Pulse waveform analysis, report print-out (if needed) and instant saving of the result into the patient’s EHR
