Cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer worldwide. Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is especially dangerous because up to 70% of the patients do not have any symptoms. It endangers a number of risk groups, e.g. smokers, hypertensives and people over 65.
The most serious consequences of PAD include amputations, especially among diabetics. Screening and timely discovery are important as PAD is also an indicator of systemic atherosclerosis, which can lead to serious cardiovascular events like stroke.
