MESI mTABLET used in nationwide French campaign against hypertension

Proper blood pressure measurement is essential for discovering hypertension and for proper monitoring of patients who have been diagnosed with this condition. MESI is joining the fourth Septembre de la Tension© (September of Blood Pressure), a France-wide effort to reach those most at risk. There will be various awareness-raising events taking place from 5 to 30 September 2022. At a number of pharmacies, MESI mTABLET devices provided by MESI France will be used for automatic blood pressure measuring.

Joint combat against hypertension

Septembre de la Tension© is organised by Prof. Xavier Girerd, cardiologist and president of the Fondation de Recherche sur l’Hypertension Artérielle (Hypertension Research Foundation), in collaboration with MESI France and the Alliance du Cœur-HTA (Heart Alliance-HTA, bringing together hypertensive patients with heart conditions).

The campaign organises concrete actions to prevent serious consequences of hypertension in France. Here are some medical facts that drive this effort:

• Hypertension affects around 15 million people in France.
• 10 million French patients are treated daily for hypertension. 80% of them are over 55 years old.
• Hypertension is a precursor of serious heart conditions (heart attack, heart failure) and kidney diseases (chronic renal failure).
• Hypertension can also lead to stroke. A stroke occurs every 4 minutes in the world, and is the leading cause of death in women.

Automatic blood measuring at the foreground

This year, Septembre de la Tension© focuses on the 10 million French people who are already treated for hypertension. According to experts, automatic blood pressure measuring is much more effective than traditional blood pressure measuring. This helps to detect conditions like white coat hypertension and masked hypertension.

A special collaboration has been organized between MESI France and several pharmacies. MESI France will provide MESI mTABLETs for free blood pressure checks with the latest-generation blood pressure measuring device of the digital age.

The MESI mTABLET has 4 blood pressure monitors (one on each arm and one on each leg), so many different blood pressure indices can be measured.

This advantage enables the following measurements:

• the patient’s blood pressure in the different limbs (left leg/right leg, left arm/right arm) can be effectively compared;
• comparing the blood pressure in the leg arteries to the blood pressure in the arms yields the Ankle-Brachial Index, an effective indicator of the Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). PAD is dangerous cardiovascular condition mostly affecting the leg arteries and leading to a very high risk of stroke and heart attack;
• the patient’s pulse wave velocity (PWV) and thus their arterial age can be estimated and contrasted to their actual age.

All this helps to determine how threatened an individual is by cardiovascular diseases and determine the area in the body that they affect. In collaboration with French pharmacies, MESI France is looking forward to making a difference in hypertension detection – through free blood pressure screenings provided with state-of-the-art MESI mTABLET technology.
