First day: 28 September 2022
The first day started with two lectures by MESI CEO Jakob Šušterič on predictive medical assessment (PMA). The aim of predictive medical assessment is to help medical professionals with all the advantages that digital technology has to offer, reducing the workload and time required for medical assessment. PMA combines digital diagnostic measurements, immediate storage and availability of patient records, and AI clinical recommendations. The first two features (i.e. digital measurements and records) have been part of MESI’s central innovation, the MESI mTABLET, since the very beginning. The lecture by Jakob Šušterič, however, concentrated on the upcoming third stage – automatic clinical calculations and recommendations.
The lectures were followed by a round-table discussion hosted by Petra Balažic, MESI’s Head of Education, featuring Martin Marsh, CEO of MESI UK Ltd, Sebastian Winkler, CEO of MESI Deutschland Gmbh and Chief Growth Officer, Saager Kalloe, Account manager at Henry Schein, and Matthew Cowlishaw, National Sales Manager – Medical Division. The central topic was tailored customer approach and aftersales in the medical field. The key take-away was that detecting and addressing unmet customer needs is essential for customer acquisition and retention.
Next came the intense part of the day: a series of practical product workshops, facilitated by MESI product experts. The participants received detailed training on the hardware components, software features and additional clinical apps available for the MESI mTABLET. The aim was to address as many practical questions as possible, and to carry out diagnostic measurements in person.
Petra Balažic, MESI’s Head of Education, led the workshop on arterial assessment with the MESI mTABLET ABI and TBI. On the basis of leg anatomy, she contrasted the difference in the use of the two modules. While both the MESI mTABLET ABI and TBI are performed in 1 minute, they may not be used with the same risk groups. She also highlighted the technological differences: ABI relies on volume plethysmography, but the signals in TBI are detected by means of photoplethysmography (PPG). In the practical part, the participants got to know the protocols for MESI mTABLET ABI and TBI measurements and the factors that can affect them.
The workshop on the MESI mTABLET SPIRO was given by Vladimir Pakrac, MESI Product Manager. The MESI mTABLET SPIRO offers three levels of spirometry: FEV6 (Quick Spirometry, e.g. for travelling health professionals like nurses), Spiro (Primary Spirometry, for the GP office) and Spiro+ (Advanced Spirometry, for specialists). Their measurements, parameters and prediction models were examined. The central advantages of the MESI mTABLET SPIRO come from digital technology: automatic calibration, automatic breath detection and maneuver termination, automatic analysis and digital records are just a few.
Špela Purkart, MESI Product Specialist and Educator, and Rok Primec, MESI Product Manager, led the workshop on the MESI mTABLET ECG. They started with the overall systemic advantages of this 12-lead resting ECG device. Some of them are: adaptivity (wireless, portable, configurable to user’s needs), free MESI mRECORDS (cloud-based storage, in-depth advanced analysis), expandability (e.g. with Spiro, Protocol, ABI…) and excellent support (3-year warranty, automated updates). The special features include Glasgow Interpretation Algorithm, ECG signal filters and instant result sharing, in which the recipient has the same views even if they do not have a MESI mTABLET.
Then followed a close-up look at the MESI mTABLET blood pressure and SPO2-related features: the MESI mTABLET BP, aBP, DBP, aDBP, SPO2 and 6MWT, facilitated by Rebeka Novak, MESI Clinical Specialist. The most important thing to note is that the MESI mTABLET modules like BP or SPO2 enable easy addition of various clinical apps for comprehensive assessment. aBP and DBP are a central part of blood pressure measurement today, helping detect white coat hypertension and potentially serious conditions on one part of the body respectively. The 6-minute walk test (6MWT), on the other hand, is increasingly used to assess the patient’s functional capacity, therapy response and prognosis of many chronic cardiopulmonary conditions.
MESI CEO Jakob Šušterič led a workshop on the MESI digital approach – from the advantages of current MESI digital technology for healthcare to the next-generation steps involving predictive medical assessment. Predictive medical assessment is being introduced into the MESI mTABLET
in stages. The workshop concentrated on its various pillars, data protection and important advantages for the end user. The latter include detecting diseases earlier, more accurate referrals, and ultimately more successful treatment.
High-quality products offer simple integration into the existing systems of the customer. Blaž Bulić, Senior Support Agent at MESI, and Nejka Pažon, MESI CTO Assistant, presented a variety of possibilities of MESI mTABLET EHR integration. The emphasis was on one of the most popular integrations – direct PDF storage from the MESI mTABLET with the use of the MESI mTABLET Print Service. This is a perfect solution for those users who would like to use their MESI mTABLET for both measurements and direct printing. After the demonstration of the integration workflow, the participants to install the MESI mTABLET Print Service themselves in the few simple steps required. We also took a look at custom MESI mTABLET integration with GDT administration files.
The aim of the workshop-filled first day of the conference was to make our partners well-acquainted with the features of the diverse MESI products and to demonstrate diagnostic measurements with confidence. The eventful day ended with a reception, dinner and dance at the picturesque Rock Hall at Ljubljana Castle, one of the landmarks of the Slovenian capital. The highlight of the evening was the award ceremony for best partner achievements of the year. This, of course, called for a celebration: through the diverse types of music and dance, we were able to get to know the different cultures represented at the conference, and danced late into the night.
Second day: 29 September 2022
The morning brought another round of workshops dedicated to MESI products. They were facilitated by MESI sales representatives and educators as well as by the MESI CEO. Following the key roundtable messages from the previous day, the workshops focused on tailored customer approach and addressing the diverse needs of MESI mTABLET buyers.
Marko Groboljšek, MESI Country Manager for Slovenia, led a workshop on approaching GPs with specific features of the MESI mTABLET. With its digital and systemic nature, the MESI mTABLET addresses important primary care challenges today:
By optimising the workflow, all this saves time and space, leaving the GP with more time for their patients and less stress at work.
The features of the MESI mTABLET important for woundcare nurses were highlighted in the workshop by Špela Purkart, MESI Product Specialist and Educator. Woundcare nurses often make home visits and determine the level of compression for chronic wounds, such as lymphoedema and the diabetic foot. The MESI mTABLET enhances their work in the following ways:
Jakob Šušterič, MESI CEO, focused on the use of the MESI mTABLET at nursing homes. One of the biggest challenges is a lack of on-site basic diagnostics; for this reason, their residents often need to be transported to a GP just for an ECG, or straight to hospital in case of unclear health situations. This is time-consuming for the nursing home staff, and stressful for the residents in case of unnecessary hospitalisations (as well as dangerous due to possible infections). The MESI mTABLET aims to make nursing home care more effective from the diagnostic point of view due to the following features:
With these advantages, the MESI mTABLET contributes to nursing home care that is of higher quality, more effective, cheaper and less taxing on the staff.
The workshop by Petra Balažic, Head of MESI Education, focused on highlighting the features of the MESI mTABLET to vascular specialists. Vascular specialists receive a lot of patients from primary care as well as from fellow specialists like podiatrists. Their biggest problem is thus numerous referrals for a Doppler exam without any previous arterial examination. This results in a big workload. How can this be changed?
Guidelines like the Scientific Statement of the American Heart Association on PAD urge that screening for conditions like Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) should take place more widely in risk groups. The MESI mTABLET enables easy, 1-minute measuring of the Ankle-Brachial Index and/or Toe-Brachial Index at primary care level as well as at specialists like podologists. An advanced arterial age assessment with the Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) app can also be performed. All these measurements provide an informed insight into the patient’s arterial health status and the level of urgency, and provides the vascular specialist with useful data before performing a Doppler exam.
Sebastian Winkler, CEO of MESI Deutschland Gmbh and Chief Growth Officer, led a sales workshop on MESI mTABLET features that cater to the needs of cardiologists. They use a lot of specialised devices, but although digital, they are not connected as a rule. For this reason, the paperwork takes a considerable amount of time, and is often available in paper form only. Here is how the MESI mTABLET can help:
The workshop by Timotej Vitez, MESI Key Account Manager, served to point out the overall advantages of the MESI mTABLET for hospitals. Some of them were the following:
After a morning of intense sales roleplay, there was time for a change of scenery. For half a day, we left the Slovenian capital and visited the village and castle of Štanjel in the Slovenian coastal region. From the modern MESI mTABLET, we delved into the ancient history of the area and its settlements. Then, there was time to sample the local specialties at well-deserved dinner.
Third day: 30 September 2022
The last day always arrives much too quickly. Although some early departures had already started, there was still plenty of programme for those who spent a bit longer in Ljubljana – consisting of lectures, the closing ceremony, the excursion to the MESI headquarters … and the promise to meet again next year.
In her presentation on sales success, Petra Balažic, MESI’s Head of Education, once again outlined the importance of catering to individual customer needs. Live events and experiences are an important factor contributing to the trust and decision of a potential buyer. For this reason, it is not only useful to attend medical events, but also to organise specialised (MESI) ones.
Tomo Krivc, MESI CTO, presented MESI’s product development journey, with the emphasis on year 2022, which has seen a big number of launched products and accessories: MESI mTABLET SPIRO Advanced (Spiro+); the next-generation MESI ABPI MD, with MESIresults and the MESI ABPI MD Trolley; the MESI mTABLET ECG Support Arm; and the improved MESI mTABLET Wall Mount.
The closing speech by Jakob Šušterič, MESI CEO,started with a recap of the healthcare challenges that provide an opportunity for digital innovations like the MESI mTABLET. In this, it is important to address the potential customer at all stages – from high-quality initial experience at events to a handy configurator for those already looking to build a custom diagnostic system. Constant partner and user training also plays an important role. A free MESI Academy programme has been created for that purpose, with numerous live lessons and Q&A sessions. The ceremony ended with another award ceremony – this time, for most engaged conference participants.
At different points of the day, groups of conference attendants were taken to MESI headquarters –where the development and production of MESI products take place at a single venue.
